Next week, there’s a new burger in town, and that town is Coventry. McDonald’s is testing its new vegan McPlant in ten outlets around the Midlands city before rolling out to 250 more restaurants next month and right across the UK in 2022. But first, they’re testing one out on me.
The plant-based patty, which I will soon sample at McDonald’s HQ in East Finchley, London (rather than at a motorway service station or after having staggered out of a bar in Soho), was developed with the US company Beyond Meat. It is served on a vegan bun with vegan cheese and prepared on a separate grill and with separate utensils to meat-based products.
