The results are in! PETA have finally revealed their winners for the Vegan Food Awards 2020, after an amazing year of vegan food.
It is no surprise that KFC’s vegan chicken burger has claimed the title of best vegan chicken, after it’s phenomenal popularity upon it’s release last year. The vegan burger sold out within just four days of it’s launch, and in one London branch it sold one approximately every minute before selling out completely.
Other unsurprising wins came from popular release Richmond Meat-Free, hailed as best vegan sausage, and household name Violife claiming top spot as best vegan cheese for it’s Epic Mature Cheddar Block.
With the disappointing vegan offering from pizza giant Domino’s released last month, Papa Johns have been crowned best vegan pizza for their The Vegan Works. Moreover, popular milk brand Oatly, who recently came under fire over their investment from pro-Trump firm Blackstone, have been knocked off their pedestal as newcomer Mighty Pea takes the title of best vegan milk.
In positive news, PETA has paid recognition to black-owned Caribbean-inspired London chain Eat of Eden, hailing their Macaroni pie as the best vegan mac and cheese in a nod to Black History Month.
Dawn Carr, director of vegan corporate projects at PETA, commented on the recent increase in interest for vegan products. “The pandemic has demonstrated that widespread societal change is possible, and that includes the explosive growth in the already booming demand for vegan foods,” she said.
“The winners of Peta’s Vegan Food Awards are making it easier than ever to go vegan by dishing up everything from creamy dairy-free ice cream to satisfying vegan fried chicken.”
